Carissa barley escapes an abusive relationship and doesn't trust herself much less anyone else with her or her child. Tyler lives on a ranch near by and Gloria, Carissa's daughter takes to him and even starts to call him Papa as time goes on. Tyler is the one who saved Carissa from her husband when he threw here in the water.

A wonderful read. This historical book takes you to Texas after the Civil War. A wonderful tale of a woman gaining her self-confidence and self-worth back and learning to love again. This is a book I will re-read as time goes by.
