Emily came back to the small town of Valentine to see her mothers store after she passes away. She meets Nate on her first night in town. A handsome cowboy she has issues with and seems to make a fool out of herself. All she wants to do is get the place fixed up after the last tenants destroyed it and get back to San Francisco. She wants to be independent after her divorce. She plans to adopt and be a single mother. Not wanting to be in town long she tries to stick to herself, but doesn't succeed as Nate takes Emily to his grandmas boarding house for a few days until she can get her place ready enough to move in. Working side by side with Nate takes a toll on them both and they start to date. As things move along she finds out a secret her mom has held out on her. Nate helps with the situation and things start to change.
I enjoyed Emily and Nate's relationship. Emily does go from hot to cold several times, but has her marriage and self-esteem was low you could see why she acted that way. Nate had he own issues and together they made a great team.
The book does have a small town feel to it that can draw the reader in.
A great start to a new series and I look forward to book 2.
